GTOT Prize for Outstanding Theses in the Fields of Turkic, Ottoman and Turkish Studies 2020
For the second time, the Society for Turkic, Ottoman and Turkish Studies (GTOT) is awarding the GTOT Prize for Outstanding Theses in the Fields of Turkic, Ottoman and Turkish Studies to junior researchers.
GTOT is pleased to present the 2020 Prize winners:
Best dissertations in the field of Ottoman Studies
Vladimir Hamed-Troyansky (Standford University, 2018): Imperial Refuge: Resettlement of Muslims from Russia in the Ottoman Empire, 1860-1914
Benjamin Weineck (University Bayreuth, 2019): Zwischen Verfolgung und Eingliederung: Kızılbaş-Aleviten im osmanischen Staat, 16.–18. Jahrhundert
Best M.A. thesis in the field of Turkish Studies
Andrea Cortellari (Leiden University, 2019): Bringing Palestine Home. A Transnational History of Turkey’s Radical Left and Palestine (1967-1972)
Best M.A. thesis in the field of Ottoman Studies
Nureddin Özel (Istanbul Şehir University, 2018): Ambassadors, Spies, Captives, Merchants and Travelers: Ottoman Information Networks in the East, 1736-1747
Prior to the actual GTOT general meeting, the GTOT awards for outstanding MA theses and dissertations will be presented on 16 September 2021, between 4:00 – 4:30 pm in the presence of the award winners (online)
